In a club after midnight in the violet blue haze of lights, on the street, in the subway, in a concert hall or a gigantic stadium – live music, wherever the encounter takes place, these are the moments I live for. Exploring the internet is a great way to find out about new bands, but there is nothing like being there, when the music surrounds you, feeling the vibrations coming up from the ground and entering your mind, body and soul. The moments when the madness of existence makes strange sense in the rhythm of this amplified heartbeat; the moments I am most alive.
So get ready, North America, because Eatliz & Electra are coming to rock your world. Anova Music, a Tel Aviv based indie label with a passion for music, is taking the two stellar bands on a US/Canda tour, starting with Eatliz at the Canadian Music Showcase in Toronto on March 9th, and continuing on to Austin, Texas for SXSW on March 16th – with many more gigs & venues.
Eatliz (the name means butcher shop in Hebrew) has a strong stage presence – their music, merging diverse musical styles to create a distinctive art rock sensibility, is fired by an intense energy. Eatliz members are: Guy Ben Shetrit, Guitars; Lee Triffon, Lead Vocals; Amit Erez, Guitars; Hadar Green, Bass; Omry Hanegby, Drums; Or Bahir, Guitars. Their album titles – Delicately Violent, Violently Delicate and Teasing Nature (January 2011) reveal the interplay of contrasts in their music – all coming together to create a powerful experience. Just listen:
Electra – Nitzan Horesh on vocals and guitars, Doron Farhi on bass and vocals, and Boaz Wolf on drums, keyboards and vocals is an emerging band that’s making waves. Hearing Coming to Get You from their debut album with Anova – Heartbreaks for Fools, you can see why there is so much talk about this trio:
Midnight East knows you want to see Electra and Eatliz perform, but what else should you see at the amazing showcase that is SXSW? The Anova Music label really loves music, not just their own bands and musicians, and they are running a blog with recommendations and info on Music to See in SXSW 2011. Midnight East loves Tel Aviv, but reading the Anova blog makes me wish I was going to Austin too.
Even if you don’t live near Austin or Toronto, you can still catch Eatliz and Electra on their tour – check the Anova site for concert details and join the facebook page to get updates on the latest news from Eatliz, Electra & Anova.
