Poetry and performance, the exploration of public and private spaces – renowned artist Vito Acconci brings an eclectic and exciting perspective to the diverse projects he has created world wide. Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem and Hamidrasha College School of Art, Beit Berl will host Vito Anconci in Israel on May 15 and 16, 2011 for a series of talks, panel discussions and meetings with students and colleagues. Events open to the public will take place in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, initiator and artistic director of this visit is Naomi Lev.

Vito Acconci is a fascinating figure in the design world. He began his career as a poet in New York in the 1960s, expanded his repertoire to include performance and video art and had an impact on Conceptual Art in the 1970s.  Characterized by an involvement with issues of public/private space and viewer/performer relationships, exploring boundaries of body and space, his creative exploration led him to the realm of audio/visual installations. His significant exhibit “Public Spaces” at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York was followed by the establishment of Acconci Studio in 1988 in collaboration with artists, designers and architects. The Studio creates projects, installations and structures worldwide. Their range of projects and imaginative conception is intruiging, a full list (including works in progress) can be found on the Acconci Studio site.
