Choreographers Ido Tadmor, Yoram Karmi and Jonathan Soutchy will present gala evening of dance dedicated to the victims of the shooting at the Bar Noar Center. The benefit performance will take place on Sunday, October 3 at the Suzanne Dellal Centre at 20:00.
On Saturday, August 1, at about 22:30, a man dressed in black, his face covered with a mask, entered Pazi House, the home of the Aguda (Israeli GLBT Association). Pazi House has been the center of the GLBT community for many years. Especially for young people, this was a place where they could hang out in a welcoming, non-judgmental, safe, environment.
Drawing his gun, the man began to shoot. There were about 40 youths and counselors present at the time of the shooting. Two people were killed: Nir Katz z”l, a 24 year old volunteer counselor; and 16 year old Liz Trobishi z”l. Ten more youths and counselors were wounded in the attack, two suffered damage to their central nervous systems and may remain paralyzed for life.
Although the horrifying attack evoked an immediate response from the general public, as there is no official recognition of hate crimes, the wounded and their families are left to deal with the trauma of the shooting on their own. The Aguda has been working to help all those affected by the attack – from opening a hotline to provide information and support in the hours immediately following, to adding a full-time social worker to their staff to address the needs of the victims and their families.
This evening is dedicated to that effort – to provide all possible assistance and support. On Sunday, October 3, the finest talents will come together on the stage of Suzanne Dellal to perform for this cause, sending a message of solidarity against all prejudice and hate crimes.
The program will include new choreography by Ido Tadmor – part of a full-length work in progress, a duet with the temporary name of “Kofiko” (monkey) will present a couple’s relationship from a comic, almost cartoon-like perspective. Dancers: Rona Lee Shimon and Mira Rubinstein.
Yoram Karmi’s La Familia is a fast-paced, wildly humorous take on family dynamics, performed by Fresco Dance Company dancers: Tal Benari, Ligal Melamed, Joel Bray, Oded Ronen and Gil Naveh.
Slave of Love by Jonathan Soutchy is a duet that evokes the warm, safe place created by love – yet love can become a deadly weapon. Performed by Jonathan Soutchy and Ido Tadmor.
Jonathan Soutchy’s Shirim veShe’arim (Songs and Goals – the name of a radio program combining football news & music) shows that the inner truth will always be revealed. Performed by Jonathan Soutchy with guest artist Evelyn Hagoel.
Tickets are 150 NIS (250 NIS for two), and can be purchased at the Suzanne Dellal box office: 03-5105656. All donations are welcome.
