Karim Abu Shakra will have a solo exhibit at the Jaffa Salon for Palestinian Art, curated by Ahmed Canaan. The exhibit will open on February 5, 2011 at 16:00 in Warehouse 2 in Jaffa Port and will remain up thru March 3, 2011. A large selection of Abu Shakra’s works will be on display in one area of the large warehouse gallery, while in the other area there will be a group show of a variety of artists.
Abu Shakra has had two previous solo exhibits – at the Municipal Gallery in Tamra and the Al Hakawati Palestinian National Theatre, and has participated in several group shows. Born in 1982 in Um El Fahm into the Abu Shakra family of artists, Abu Shakra will exhibit 20 new paintings. Some of the more recent works were created in response to the fire on the Carmel Mountain.
The Jaffa Salon for Palestinian Art opened as a permanent exhibit space this past October, with the aim of presenting Palestinian art to a wider audience. A diverse selection of artists are represented by the gallery – including established artists as well as emerging artists, working in different styles and media. The gallery is one of many recent additions to Jaffa Port in the past three years. The port is undergoing a process of renewal and growth, becoming a center of culture and commerce.
