Isabelle Huppert; her daughter, actress Lolita Chammah; actor/director Matthieu Amalric; film critic Michel Ciment, editor of the film magazine Positif; and author Michel Houellebecq will arrive in Israel for the 8th French Film Festival, 2011. The festival will take place from April 2 – 16, 2011 at the Cinematheques in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa, Sderot and Rosh Pina, sponsored by TV5 Monde. The opening film will be Potiche, a new comedy by François Ozon, starring Catherine Deneuve, Gérard Depardieu, Fabrice Luchini and Karin Viard.
In Copacabana, Huppert portrays a free-spirited mother who tries to finally grow up for the sake of her adult daughter, played by Chammah. Amalric will present his film On Tour, which won him the Best Director Award at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival. The film’s producers, Yaël Fogiel et Laetitia Gonzales will also be guests of the festival. Israeli actress Ronit Elkabetz will present her latest film Les Mains Libres, directed by Brigitte Sy. The film will be screened as part of a special event dedicated to the Ahoti (Hebrew: sister) movement for Sephardic women, in which Elkabetz serves as president. Author Michel Houellebecq, will be in Israel from March 31 – April 4, 2011 for the launching of the Hebrew translation of La carte et le territoire, winner of the 2010 Prix Goncourt, by Babel Publishing House. The film Extension du domaine de la lutte, based on Houellebecq’s novel, will be screened at the festival.
