Dance Arena Festival 2011

Hazira Performance Art presents the Dance Arena Festival (Zirat Mahol) –  a three day festival of innovative dance that will take place this week from July 26 – 28, 2011 at the Gerard Bechar Centre in Jerusalem. 8 evening premieres of dance works that explore and respond to the local social and political environment will be presented, along with a symposium in collaboration with Maakaf magazine, “Dance Responds,” that will take place on Thursday, July 28, 2011 (in Hebrew).

Seeking to generate dialogue not only between dance and the surroundings but among the participants themselves, the dancers and choreographers shared their work and experiences with one another throughout the process. Participating in Zirat Mahol are: Asaf Aharonson, Gilad Ben Ari, Tami Leibovich, Nataly Dvir, Hilit Levi, Ehud Darash, Uri Shafir and Moran Avergil Yitzhaki.

The festival will also host guest artists from Poland, and a solo created and performed by Nava Frankel. Festival artistic directors are Arkadi Zaides and Anat Danieli, Hazira artistic director is Guy Biran. The festival is produced by Hazira Performance Arts, and sponsored by the Culture Authority and the Jerusalem Municipality. There will be two performances each evening, at 20:00 and 22:00 at the Gerard Behar Centre, 11 Bezalel Street, Jerusalem. Tickets can be purchased online: www.hazira.org.il
