“It’s been another excellent year for Israeli film,” said Marek Rozenbaum, President of the Israel Academy for Film and Television, as he announced the films nominated for this year’s Ophir Awards. Of the 26 feature films and 47 documentaries participating in the competition this year, some have already been recognized internationally, with Joseph Cedar’s Footnote winning Best Screenplay at Cannes, Yossi Madmoni’s Restoration winning Best Screenplay at Sundance and Grand Prix at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, and Nadav Lapid’s The Policeman winning the special jury prize for second best film at the Locarno Film Festival.
The awards ceremony will take place in late September in Haifa, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Sport Film Council, the Haifa Municipality and the Haifa International Film Festival. The ceremony will be broadcast on Channel 2, Keshet. A date has not been set for the ceremony; updates will be available on Midnight East and the Israel Academy for Film and Television website.
