Community Theatre Festival – Yoram Loewenstein Studio

The performing arts studio founded by Yoram Loewenstein in the Hatikva (Hope) neighborhood of Tel Aviv integrates acting studies with theatre work in the community. Acting students work with a wide range of groups in the community, including: children of new immigrants, children of foreign workers, youth at risk, vision and hearing impaired individuals and others. This week, the studio will hold a community theatre festival “Hope in the Studio” from August 28 – 30, 2011, featuring performances by the different groups.

Children of the Heart – a community theatre group of religious youth from “Reshit” High School. The play won awards at the “Theatrical Autumn” festival of community theatre in 2009, and has since been performed in international festivals in Scotland and Germany. The play will open the festival tonight, August 28, 2011 at 21:00 and will be performed on August 29 & 30th at 18:00 and 21:00. Performances will take place at 19 Hanoch Street, Hatikva neighborhood, Tel Aviv.

The Meaning of Life – a group of 9 elderly women, some over 80 years old, have been working together for the past 12 years as part of the Yoram Loewenstein Studio community theatre project. Some, such as Neima Hansab and Ilanit Nuriel have gone on to perform in television programs such as “Ramzor” and “Haborer,” as well as student films and commercials. Third year students Liran Korotkin and Eyal Heine direct this group in scenes from Hanoch Levin. Performances will take place on August 29 & 30th at 18:00 and 20:00, in the Orna Hall, 22 Hamevaser Street, Hatikva neighborhood, Tel Aviv.

Community films featuring children from the neighborhood will be screened on August 29 & 30th, at 18:00 and 19:00, in the “Ceramics” Hall, 22 Hamevaser Street, Hatikva neighborhood, Tel Aviv.

“Lefanim” – an original work created from personal materials by the youth at risk group will be performed on August 29 & 30th at 17:00 and 19:00, in the “Blue Room” Hall, 22 Hamevaser Street, Hatikva neighborhood, Tel Aviv.
