The Israeli Opera invites everyone to enjoy opera as it opens its 27th season with free outdoor performances! In collaboration with the Tel Aviv Municipality, the Israeli Opera will celebrate “Opera Month” throughout the month of December.
The season will open with a program of two short operas in one evening – “Cavalleria Rusticana” (Rustic Chivalry) by Pietro Mascagni and “I Pagliacci” (The Clowns) by Ruggero Leoncavallo. A giant tent will be set up in the piazza of the opera house for the first three performances (December 1 – 3) and “I Pagliacci” will be screened live from the opera for the general public. The evening will begin with a concert of the Opera Studio Singers, accompanied by piano.
Take a musical stroll down Rothschild Avenue! Opera singers and actors in colorful costumes will perform on Fridays between 12:00 and 16:00 (December 2, 9, 16, 23).
On Saturday afternoons wander down to Hatahana (The Station complex) for free concerts with opera singers and actors on December 3, 10, 17 and 24.
The operas will be conducted by David Stern, the musical director of the Israeli Opera. Some of the performances will be conducted by Yishai Steckler, chorus master of the Israeli Opera. The operas are directed by famed opera director, Giancarlo del Monaco-Zukerman, and feature top Israeli and international opera singers, The Opera Orchestra – The Israel Symphony Orchestra Rishon LeZion and the Israeli Opera Chorus.
