The Image of the Jew/Israeli in Middle Eastern Film, is a new series of films and lectures edited by Orly Rahmian which will take place at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque every other Wednesday, during January and February 2012.
The first meeting, “The Iranian Shylock”: The Image of Jews in Iranian Film, will take place on January 11, 2012 at 19:00. Orly Rahmian will discuss the topic and show: Jews of Iran (Holland 2005), a documentary film by Ramin Farahani, that explores the lives of Jews in Iran. The film is in Persian and English, with Hebrew subtitles.
Future meetings will include: Samir Ben-Laishi discussing the way in which Morocco deals with its Jewish past in film on January 25th; Eyal Sagi Bijoui on Jews in Egyptian film on February 8th; and Osnat Trabelsi will discuss the Israeli/Jew in Palestinian film on February 29th, with a screening of Elia Suleiman’s The Time That Remains: Chronicle of a Present Absentee.
