
The Tel Aviv –Yafo Municipality Department of Performances in collaboration with IUPA – Israeli Union of Performing Artists, Eshkolot and the Cameri Theatre, will present a tribute in memory of Yaffa Yarkoni (1925 – 2012): “Ha’amini Yom Yavo – Believe, the Day Will Come” on Friday, February 24, 2012 at 11:30 at the Cameri Theatre.
David Daor, Ahinoam Nini, Liraz Cherhi, Dikla, Tzvika Pik, Shlomit Aharon, Shula Chen, Roni Daloumi, Izhar Cohen, Meir Swissa, Ishai Swissa, Miki Kam, Israel Gurion, Rama Messinger, Heni Nahmias, Israel Itzhaky, Shai Gabso, Edna Goren, Dorit Reuveni and Anton Lapidus are among the artists who will perform in the festive event hosted by Natan Datner.
Born Yaffa Abramov in 1925, Israel Prize recipient Yaffa Yarkoni began singing as a young girl in her mother’s café in the 1940s. During her military service she joined an IDF ensemble affiliated with the Givati Brigade. Bab el-Wad, a song she sang during Israel’s War of Independence, became a signature song for Yarkoni, and of the era, commemorating those who were killed while driving convoys to Jerusalem. Yarkoni’s well-known songs will be performed at the tribute event – “Ha’amini Yom Yavo,” “Al Na Tomar Li Shalom,” “Kol Hayonim,” “Haamini Yom Yavo” and many more. The tribute to Yaffa Yarkkoni is produced and directed by Avi Gez, arrangements and musical direction by Uzi and Chaim Asner, research and texts by Avi Koren. All the proceeds for the event will be donated to IUPA to support artists in need.
