Inspired by Tabaimo’s short animation “Japanese Bathhouse,” Ohad Naharin created FURO, a dance installation that merges live dance with animation. Originally created for, and produced by Stockholm’s Judiska Teatern in 2006, FURO was performed at the Port of Tel Aviv in 2008, and returns next month for a festive revival. The experience of FURO is dramatically different from a dance performance. Each session of the installation is 4 hours long, and audience members can walk in and out of the performance area throughout (last entrance is ½ hour before the session ends). A 45 minute movement sequence is performed in a loop, with two different dancers in each 45 minute segment.

Tabaimo represented Japan at the Venice Art Biennale 2011 with the site-specific installation “teleco-soup.”  Relating to traditional Japanese images, Tabaimo’s animation combines beauty and humor with cultural critique. The word O-furu means “respected bath house.” Watching FURO one is immersed in a fantastic vision of that world, in dialogue with the dancers and the contemporary Israeli culture as expressed in the movement and street aesthetic of the costumes designed by Alla Eisenberg, Sharon Eyal, Mirit Weinstock, and Sason Kedem.

FURO is performed three times each evening, with each session lasting an hour and a half, in other words: three 45 minute loops. After entering, the audience can come and go freely, but it is recommended to allow at least a 45 minute viewing period. Tickets may be purchased online or call:  03-5104037. Performance schedule:
