Aida - La Scala

Enjoy opera, dance and music at the movies with La Cinema! The Israeli Opera, Tel Aviv Cinematheque and Haifa Cinematheque present a 12-part series of filmed performances that will be screened at the cinematheques throughout the year. The series opens on February 28, 2012 with Puccini’s Turandot, in the Valencia Opera production (May 2008) conducted by Zubin Mehta and directed by Tiziano Mancini, with set design by noted Chinese film director Chen Kaige and soloists Maria Guleghina (Turandot) and Marco Berti (Prince Calaf). The film is 124 minutes long (35 min first act, 43 min second act followed by a 10 min intermission, 46 min third act) and will be sung in Italian with Hebrew and English subtitles.

It’s an opportunity to experience La Scala, the Bolshoi Ballet, the Vienna Philharmonic and other international cultural delights a little closer to home, and larger than life on the big screen. Films will be screened once a month, HD quality with surround sound, and all the operas will feature both Hebrew and English subtitles.
