Enjoy a “Taste of Childhood” at the Adloyada, Holon’s traditional Purim parade on March 8, 2012. A procession of decorated vehicles will precede the parade, opening the day’s events at 11:00, with the parade beginning at 12:00. The Adloyada will march along Sokolov Street and end at Weizmann, corner of Histadrut Street.
6,000 participants, giant displays, acrobats, musicians and everything from veggies to junk food & more will entertain the viewers with images of all the goodies that kids love to eat to the rallying cry of “Ochel, kadima ochel” (roughly translated as: bring on the food).
Among the giants will be a 2 meter Popeye with his trademark can of spinach, a much-larger-than-life pita with falafel that opens to let a host of dancers out onto the route, the ubiquitous schnitzel will make an appearance as will some slightly more gourmet displays: representations of the Israeli master chefs Aharoni, Shaul Ben Aderet, Moshe Segev and Eyal Shani.
The parade is sponsored by Nickolodeon and the Food Channel, Bob Sponge will join the celebration accompanied by the winners of the channel’s kid’s recipe competition. There will even be a nod to current politics with a display of dairy products with a huge cow at the center, energetically milked by Bibi and Lieberman.
The parade will end with a huge party with music, acrobats and pyrotechnics opposite the Holon Municipal Building on Weizmann Street. There will also be creative workshops in Weizmann Square on Thursday, March 8 from 10:00 – 17:00 and Friday, March 9 from 10:00 – 14:00. The Adloyada figures will be on display at the Mediatheque Square (6 Golda Meir Street) until March 11, 2012.
