Choreographer Niv Sheinfeld and Oren Laor will reenact their version of Liat Dror and Nir Ben Gal’s Two Room Apartment, on October 19, 2012 at Tmuna Theatre in Tel Aviv.

Two Room Apartment, winner of the 1987 Gvanim Bemahol (Shades of Dance) Competition, is a landmark on the contemporary Israeli dance scene, in its use of the movements and gestures of everyday life onstage to explore the friction and intimacy of a couple’s relationship.

Sheinfeld and Laor take this work as a starting point for a new piece, which they will perform. The reenactment will include the original choreography, which relies heavily on repeated movements that create a symbolic framework, alongside Sheinfeld and Laor’s renewed vision which speaks from the vantage point of a different time and artistic sensibility.

Dance works are rarely revived on the Israeli stage, and this is an excellent opportunity to see the work and its relationship to the movement language of Sheinfeld and Laor. Dror and Ben Gal granted the choreographers permission to reenact and alter the work, and this will be reflected not only in the movement, but in the soundtrack.

Co-produced with the Centre National De La Danse in France and the Grand Theatre in Holland, and supported by the Israeli National Lottery, the Israeli premiere of Sheinfeld and Laor’s Two Room Apartment will take place as part of the Tmuna Theatre Festival in October.

Performances will take place on October 19 at 21:00 and October 20 at 20:00; Tmuna Theatre, 8 Soncino Street, Tel Aviv. Tickets are 30 NIS (the festival offers tickets at a subsidized price), to order call: 03-5611211.
