All you Pecha Kucha virgins, this paragraph is for you! What, you may ask yourself, is Pecha Kucha? Initiated by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham, the first Pecha Kucha took place in Tokyo, February 2003, and has since expanded worldwide. The fun, fascinating and fast 20 X 20 cultural format combines the entertaining with the informative: 20 images are presented for 20 seconds each, adding up to 6 minutes and 40 seconds stage time for each presenter.

Pecha Kucha (which loosely translated from Japanese means “chit chat”) curators Anat Safran and Itay Mautner, in collaboration with FAZA productions, continue to intrigue and entertain with their selections. Coming up on December 2nd:

Tomer Yosef (Balkan Beat Box) will reveal his new musical project in collaboration with Tamir Muskat – Yemenite groove with a contemporary perspective, featuring three singing sisters from the South of Israel, and songs written by Shlomo Muja’a. Yosef is also working on a documentary focusing on Yemenite music, directed by Assaf Sudry.

Adi Savran – tattoos

Adi Savran loves tattoos documenting them on her blog, Tabula Rasa – she’ll share some of stories behind the ink.

Family On The Road – one family and their journey. Like many Israelis, not living the dream, realizing that somehow they have lost their way, this family was determined to ask: Why? Travelling through Israel, talking to people and posting the conversations on YouTube – meet them at Pecha Kucha.

Eyal Shani is considered to have redefined “Israeli food,” and he’s been taking large format photographs of every step along the way. Something to be savored.

Graphic designer Lahav Halevi merges his political-social consciousness with his design perspective. He’ll be presenting new works at Pecha Kucha.

Yaron Steinberg graduated from Bezalel’s Graphic Design Department two years ago, presenting “The Brain” as his final project – a three dimensional representation of his emotional experiences over the course of many years of travel, visiting more than 40 countries, encountering people and cultures.

Visual artist, designer and animator Liron Kroll, a graduate of the Royal College of London, will arrive from London to present a project created in collaboration with a technological lab in Switzerland, photography, animation and augmented reality – which she will demonstrate live onstage at Pecha Kucha.

Nadav Bagim

Nadav Bagim, an undergraduate student in Brain Sciences, creates in his photographs of insects a fantasy realm – Wonderland.

Team etc in action/Photo courtesy of PR

Team etc are a group of six architects, Bezalel graduates, who practice social activism through works created in the public sphere combining architecture with a social statement, and humor. During the social protests of 2011, they handed out replicas of the Akirov Towers made out of folded menus from a low-end Chinese restaurant. Many of their projects are interactive, involving spectators as participants, perhaps that will be true for their Pecha Kucha presentation as well…

Designer Tal Erez, a graduate of Eindhoven, will talk about the social, political and critical role of designers in light of technological developments such as the 3D printer.

To get you into the mood: visual pre-show by Avraham Kornfeld and musical pre-show DJ Markey Funk.
