The Felicja Blumenthal International Music Festival will take place from April 29 –  May 4, 2013 at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. One of the intriguing offerings is the performance of John Malkovich in The Infernal Comedy, a stage play by Michael Sturminger.

As Sturminger says on the play’s site: “When a dead serial killer returns to the stage to present his autobiography in a public reading, a comedy is not exactly what we are in for; but what are we demanding, anyway, if we are waiting to see a new opera/play about a murderer of women, for an orchestra on period instruments, two sopranos and one actor? The forecast changes completely if we learn that John Malkovich is going to play the role of Jack, who is launching his “Confessions of a serial killer”. Now we definitely expect the unexpected.” Performances will take place on May 1st at the Tel Aviv Museum, and on May 2nd at the Dan Hotel, Eilat at the Eilat Chamber Music Festival.

Now in its 15th edition, the six day festival offers a cornucopia of events with a bevy of international and Israeli talents. Annette Celine is the festival’s Artistic Director, Avigail Arnheim is the Executive Director and Yehuda Schreyer is the Artistic Editor for guitar week. Opening night will feature the Duo Yaara Tal and Andreas Groethuysen onstage with the Liepzig Quartet for an evening of Felix Mendelssohn.

The ethereal voiced Clematis Ensemble from Belgium returns to the festival to perform on Thursday night.

On Friday night, Chilean vocalist Claudia Akuna will join one of my favorites, Avi Lebovich and the Orchestra.

The full program and further details on all the performing artists are available in English on the festival website, as well as ticket information. Enjoy!
