The alluring Haze, choreographed by Wang Yuanuan and performed by the Beijing Dance Theater, will premiere in Israel at the Israeli Opera, with four performances from June 5 – 8, 2013.
19 dancers move through the haze to music composed by Henryk Gorecki and Biosphere, evoking the sense of faltering uncertainty, inspired by the economic crisis and environmental concerns that began in 2009. Haze develops as a metaphor for the atmospheric fog of pollution and the spiritual dark mists of thought in times of difficulty. The work focuses on the question of finding one’s path in this darkness. Haze premiered in Beijing on May 5, 2009.
Beijing Dance Theater was founded in 2008, bringing together traditional elements of Chinese culture and dance with ballet and a modern edge. The company’s 19 dancers are trained in classical ballet and modern dance, and in addition, the BDT runs a dance school for children, fostering new generations of dancers in China. The company’s creative core, choreographer and artistic director Wang Yuanyuan, lighting designer Han Jiang, and set designer Tan Shaoyuan, have worked closely together for the past five years, in which the company has performed worldwide.
