Testosterone rules in Uprising! The intense physicality and signature body language of Hofech Schecter‘s choreography is expressed in the cast of seven male dancers: Tamir Eting, Mario Bermudez Gil, Eduard Turull, Shane Scopatz, Oz Shoshan, Gil Shachar, and Or Schraiber. Schecter, a dancer in the Batsheva Dance Company before launching his London-based international career as a choreographer, gave the work to Batsheva and came to Israel to rehearse with the dancers in preparation for this premiere.

Daniella Agami danced in Batsheva from 2002 – 2010, fulfilling additional roles in the company as artistic director and producer of dancers workshops from 2007 – 2009, and rehearsal director from 2008 – 2010. She is also fondly remembered by this writer as an imaginative, mind and body-stretching Gaga teacher. An independent choreographer, she lives and works in Los Angeles, where she founded her own company in 2011: Ate9 Dance Company. Agami was invited to create a work for the Batsheva Ensemble and has been working with a cast of seven female dancers on Shula. A brief glimpse of select  scenes reveals Shula to be visually and emotionally compelling, with unexpected twists. Shula will be performed by: Noam Eidelman Shatil, Rani Lebzelter, Keren Lurie-Pardes, Shani Licht, Ayelet Nadav, Mariko Kakizaki and Maya Tamir.

The Batsheva Ensemble dancers are amazing – with all the surging energy of youth, abundant talent, and the ability to convey a stirring emotional range and depth. Don’t take my word for it – go see for yourself!
