Come out and play in one of the world’s most wonderful playgrounds: the Israel Museum. Contact Point is an annual event that opens the museum to new perspectives, this year, artistic director Renana Raz puts the emphasis on you, the museum visitor, with a multitude of opportunities to engage with the museum’s exhibitions, collections and Contact Point guest artists.
On Thursday, July 25th, the museum will open its doors at night, from 20:00 – 03:00, with activities, music, performance, dance, theatre and football, throughout the museum buildings and campus.
A taste of this year’s highlights:
Open football match with Hapoel Katamon Jerusalem near the Shrine of the Book. Who can play? Anyone and everyone. 20:30 – 23:30.
Make your mark on the museum – as you wander through the events of this wild night, take some pictures on your phone, upload online to share with your friends, and add them to the collage of visitor’s photos that will be projected on Sol Lewitt’s Block in the Art Garden. Throughout the evening.
Dance! Meet me and about 1,000 others by the Anish Kapour sculpture for a wi party like no other. Two DJs – Jerusalem’s Soli Noema & Ori Bankhalter – will be yours for the choosing. Just a flick of the switch on your headphones and you’ll be dancing to a different beat… 23:00 – 03:00.
Let the games begin. Arik Portman has designed video games to project and play on the museum wall. Play Arkanoid/Breakout and Pac Man on this larger-than-life screen, complete with wireless joystick. Number of players is limited, so please sign up when you arrive at the museum to save your spot. 23:00 – 02:00.
Choreographer Maya Brinner will perform her dance Woods amid the forest landscapes of Yehudit Sasportas exhibition Seven Winters, in the Ayala Zacks Abramov Pavilion for Israel Art. Times: 21:30; 22:30; 00:30.
“And a little child will lead them” – new insights on the museum exhibition from children. Yonatan and Masha recorded children’s responses to the exhibitions in the Dada, Surrealist and Pop Art galleries. Take a unique tour through these galleries with earphones, and hear what the kids have to say. The Modern Art Galleries. Throughout the evening.
A strange and mysterious thing with books will take place in the exhibition By the Book: 500 Years of Readers and Reading in European Art. I don’t know or understand exactly what will transpire here, but artist Michal Shamir will bind books and performance artist Alit Kreiz will create performance from the installation. Artist Nona Orbach will collect and process small items to create an imaginary archaeological exhibition. The public is invited to participate in the creation of this unique fabrication. Hatzor Gate, Archaeology Wing. Throughout the evening. Bring: old keys, coins, business cards and other small items you are willing to part with.
System Ali, the amazing, cool, multi-language (Arabic, English, Hebrew, Russian) hip hop crew will blow your mind with their Jaffa sound. Archaeology Wing. Duration: 20 min. Performances: 22:00; 23:00; 00:00.
