Mexico’s half-forgotten B-movie master, “involuntary surrealist” Juan Orol, is paid pitch-perfect tribute in this irresistible love letter to a self-made man of showbiz, whose career spanned nearly sixty FILMs. In glorious black-and-white, the FILM examines his Galician childhood, tainted by the movies, as well as his forced exile to Cuba and arrival in Mexico. The intrepid “Juanito“ pursues an array of careers, including baseball player, boxer, bullfighter and gangster, to no avail. His failure seems to work to his benefit, however, when he makes it in the movie business.
