If you enjoy a bit of drama with your jazz, à la Edith Piaf, Patricia Kaas will be performing in Israel next week in a tribute to the French diva. “Kaas Chante Piaf” will be performed in Haifa on April 6th, and at the Tel Aviv Mann Auditorium on April 7th, with a program of Piaf’s stirring hits, including: Padam, Padam; Milord, and the signature song La Vie En Rose.
Kaas brings her own interpretation to the French chanson, in arrangements by Abel Korzienowski. She has been on a worldwide tour of 45 countries with this tribute to Piaf, performing at the Olympia on October 23, 2013 (the anniversary of Piaf’s death) in a special commemorative concert.
Born in the Lorraine region of France, near the border with Germany, to a German mother and German-speaking French father, Kaas’ first language was Lorraine-Franconian. Singing and performing from an early age, Kaas enjoyed her early success winning a pop contest, but a more significant landmark in her career came at age 19, when Gerard Depardieu produced her first single Jalouse. The song caught the attention of songwriter Didier Barbelivien whose song Mademoiselle chante le blues became Kaas’ first hit.
Kaas Chante Piaf is produced in Israel by Hashigaon Hatsarfati. Performances: April 6th at 20:30 at the Congress Center in Haifa; April 7th at 20:30 at the Mann Auditorium in Tel Aviv and tickets may be ordered online. http://www.israstage.com/
