It’s been an exciting evening, with several excellent films contending for the Israeli Academy of Film and Television Ophir Awards. The winners have just been announced: Gett, The Trial of Viviane Amsalem has been chosen this year’s Best Feature, and will represent Israel in the running for Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars. Ronit Elkabetz, co-writer/director and star of Gett, called it “a victory of the spirit for thousands of women who are denied a gett (Jewish divorce decree).” There is so much more to say about these films, but for now, here are the winners:
