Come enjoy Turkish music in Tel Aviv! Harel Shachal & the Ottomans will perform a free concert on November 13, 2014 at 20:00, as part of the Culture and Community program of the First International Bank of Israel, 42 Rothschild Blvd, Tel Aviv. Admission is free, but advance registration is required. To reserve a place, call 03-5130001.

Harel Shachal’s music wanderings led the Rimon School graduate to pursue Middle Eastern music in New York, studying with G-Clarinet player Souren Baronian, and inspired by Turkish clarinetists Mustafa Kandirali, Sukru Tunar, and Suffet Gundeger. Shachal also traveled to Turkey to study with Gypsy Musicians and other teachers. A graduate and then faculty member of the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, where he was Director of the World Music/Middle Eastern Ensemble, Shachal founded his own band, Anistar, in 2002, merging Middle Eastern and Mediterranean music with jazz. Yet his connection to Middle Eastern music eventually drew him back to this region in 2009, where he currently teaches in Tel Aviv at the Israeli Conservatory, and pursues musical projects such as The Ottomans, a sextet dedicated to Turkish music.

Performing with Harel Shachal are: Yaniv Taichman: Oud, Ariel Qassis: Kanun, Daniel Hoffman: Violin, Roei Fridman: Darbuka, and Ben Dagovitch: Riqq. The sextet performs Turkish folk music, as well as originals inspired by classical Turkish music traditions.
