The Glenn Miller Orchestra has a swinging history, and it is still going strong! They are returning to Israel this month after a three year absence, with two performances:  the Culture Palace (Charles Bronfman Auditorium) in Tel Aviv on October 12 & Congress Center in Haifa on October 13th.

Moonlight Serenade, In The Mood, Chatanooga Choo Choo, Tuxedo Junction, Little Brown Jug – these songs, made famous by the Glenn Miller Orchestra, are timeless. You may not recognize the titles, you may not even realize that you know them, but when you hear the first notes, you begin to smile…

You listen to the music, and it makes you want to dance.

Glenn Miller was a talented swing era composer, arranger and bandleader who made his mark with a clarinet led sax section that gave the band its distinctive sound. The instrumentals sing, they really do.

Starting out as a freelance trombonist, Miller played with Tommy Dorsey and Benny Goodman, as well as appearing in several films. He founded The Glenn Miller Orchestra in 1937, and struggled for a few years while searching for that special sound, but by the end of 1938 he began recording with Bluebird Records and became the leading recording artist between the years 1939 – 1943, with recordings like Tuxedo Junction selling 115,000 copies in the first week. His personal story is tragic: his plane went down in the English Channel on December 15, 1944 when he was in Europe to entertain the troops. Glenn Miller was only forty years old when he died. Yet the music lives and the Glenn Miller Productions, Inc. administers the musician’s heritage.

The Glenn Miller Orchestra has been under the direction of Dutch jazz musician Wil Salden since 1990, touring practically nonstop and entertaining audiences worldwide. Salden plays the piano and creates the “Miller mood” with 15 musicians and a vocalist onstage.

Ticket prices range from 200 – 400 NIS. Tickets for the Tel Aviv performance may be ordered from Bravo online via this link or call *3221, for the Haifa performance order from Barak online via this link, or call: 04-837-7777.
