The Béjart Ballet Lausanne returns to Israel as one of the highlights of what promises to be a vibrant dance season! The company will present two programs: Maurice Béjart’s Boléro and Ballet for Life, dedicated to Freddie Mercury and the dancer Jorge Donn, with music by Queen and Mozart. The performances will take place in October 2016.

More to come in October – The Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company will premiere a new work by choreographer and artistic director Rami Be’er: Susim BaShamayim (Horses in the Sky), which will be performed with Be’er’s If At All (2012).
The Eifman Ballet returns with two popular programs: Red Giselle, choreographer Boris Eifman’s new interpretation of the classic ballet; and Tender is the Night. Performances will take place in October 2016.
Urban street dance, hip hop, capoeira and breakdance are all part of the lively energies of Balé de Rua Brazil! The company, under the artistic direction of Marco Antonio Garcia (who in addition to the choreography, designs the costumes and set), will be coming to Israel for the first time in November 2016.
Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève, under the artistic direction of Philippe Cohen, is one of the most exciting dance companies I’ve seen in recent years. (Midnight East review, Israel Festival performance) They will perform a program with works by two leading contemporary choreographers: Ken Ossola and Andonis Foniadakis. Performances will take place in December 2016.
Ballet Biarritz returns with Thierry Malandin’s Cendrillion – familiarly known as Cinderella. The choreographer remains true to the dramaturgy and score by Prokofiev, while following some of his own themes through this story – the journey of a dancing star. Performances will take place in February 2017.
Spring will herald the arrival of Jessica Lang Dance (JLD), a New York City-based company founded in 2011, under the artistic direction of choreographer Jessica Lang. Performances will take place in April 2017.
Philippe Genty returns after a decade long absence, with a new work choreographed with his life and work partner Marie Underwood. Genty’s work merges dance with theatre, puppets, objects and lighting design to create works of dreams and fantasy. Performances will take place in May/June 2017.
Chinese dancer and choreographer Wang Yabin will present The Moon Opera, a dance work based on the novel by Bi Feiyu. Has worked in film and television, appearing as a dancer in Zhang Yimou’s House of Flying Daggers. Choreographed and directed by Wang Yabin, The Moon Opera is a collaborative creative endeavor involving Chinese and international artists. Performances will take place in June 2017.
The Eisenhower Dance Company, under the artistic direction of Laurie Eisenhower hails from Detroit, Michigan. This will be the company’s first visit to Israel. The company will perform The Light Show, a work which pairs four choreographers with four lighting designers in an intriguing work featuring light and lasers. Performances will take place in June 2017.
