The Jaffa Theatre and Al Saraya Theatre will present Ruj Sharkie, a five day festival of contemporary Arab Culture from June 1 – 5, 2016. The festival will present works of theatre, music, poetry and film from Palestinian, Iraqi, Lebanese and Egyptian cultures.

Opening the festival will be a musical show in the Jaffa Theatre Square, with singer/actor Galit Giat, singer/actor Mira Awad, Ala Abu Amra, Ala Azam, The Qarrar Band led by Muhamad Kondas, and rapper Tamer Nafar of DAM. In addition to musical performances, Palestinian writer Eyad Barghouthywill discuss the meaning of the term culture, and the program will also feature an homage to the writer, journalist and playwright Salman Natour. The evening will begin at 21:00 and be hosted by Gabi Eldor and Muhamad Kondas. Admission free.

The program includes evenings dedicated to Palestinian, Iraqi, Lebanese, and Egyptian cultures, with several shows taking place each evening, among them: a performance of the Al Saraya Theatre’s production A Sea West to Us, written and directed by Amir Nizar Zuabi, Yaa Samar dance performance, and a tribute to Fairuz featuring the Qarar Ensemble with vocalist Lama Abu Ganem. A ticket to a single show is 25 NIS, a ticket for the whole evening is 50 NIS.
