Levontin 7 will be celebrating their 11th anniversary with 11 days of performances! Music & more! Levontin 7 will continue the wild and wonderful tradition of its 3-day music marathon, a tribute to Thelonius Monk, and performances by international and Israeli bands.
Levontin 7, one of my favorite Tel Aviv venues, was founded in 2006 by musicians Asif Tsahar, Daniel Sarid and Ilan Volkov and they have been hosting two shows a night ever since! Over the years I’ve seen such a diverse selection of shows – rock, indie, funk, electronic, folk, jazz, and music that defies definition… as well as diverse audiences of all ages and styles.

Thursday, July 20th
20:00 Change of Heart – Tal Gamliel Trio with American saxophonist Dayna Stephens. Bass player/composer Tal Gamliel has been leading his trio since 2014, his collaboration with Dayna Stephens began at the Tel Aviv Jazz Festival. Performing: Dayna Stephens, Tal Gamliel, Hay Bar David, Amir Bar Akiva. Doors open at 20:00, show starts at 20:30. Tickets are 80 NIS at the door/70 NIS in advance/60 NIS student-soldier discount.
22:30 Listener (US), with special guests Fastest Leap & Bonjour Machines. Indie-rock band performing their signature style of “Talk Music” for the first time in Israel! Founded in 2002 as a solo project by Dan Smith, the band evolved into: Smith on vocals and bass, Kris Rochelle on drums, and Jon Terrey on guitar. Doors open at 22:30, show at 23:00. Tickets are 60 NIS at the door/50 NIS in advance.
Friday, July 21st
20:00 “Poetry for Rent” a Poetry Slam Israel event – Spoken word artists perform poetry by beloved Israeli poets.

Saturday, July 22nd
Ken Vandermark Quartet – Avant garde jazz musician, composer, saxophonist and clarinetist, Ken Vandermark has made his mark on the Chicago jazz scene since the 1990s, and was the recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship in 1999. He will be coming to Israel with a new quartet – Steve Swell (trombone), Paal Nilssen-Love (drums), Jon Rune Strom (bass).
First set – doors open at 20:00, show at 20:30.
Second set – doors open at 22:00, show at 22:30.
Tickets are 120 NIS per set, combined ticket for both sets 160 NIS.

Wednesday, July 26th
Slava Ganelin in a tribute to Thelonius Monk – Vyacheslav (Slava) Ganelin was born in Russia in 1944, and has performed with his trio worldwide. He’s composed music for film, theatre, opera and dance. Ganelin immigrated to Israel in 1987.
Doors open at 19:30, show starts at 20:00.

Thelonius Monk – 100th Anniversary
This year marks the 100th Anniversary of jazz great Thelonius Monk’s birth! An excellent cohort of Israeli musicians will be performing works from Monk’s inspiring repertoire: Yuval Cohen, Gadi Stern (Shaloah), Tomer Bar with Omer Asher, Guy Kornovsky, Asaf Even Tsur, Assif Tsahar, Steve Peskoff with Haim Peskoff, Asaf Shatil.

Thursday, July 27th
Tiny Fingers – with new materials and faves from their repertoire “textured layers of instrumentals that send the mind to the outer reaches of consciousness and make the body MOVE!!!” (read Midnight East’s interview with Oren Ben David here)

Friday, July 28th
Eran Tsur hosts Hila Ruah – Tsur will be performing songs from his new album, alongside favorites from all the years. Performing with Tsur will be Shay Baruch (drums) and Ram Orion (guitar), and Ziv Broshi (keyboards).

Saturday, July 29th
Holot Theatre Generation 2.0 – the Holot Theatre group is comprised of asylum seekers from Eritrea and Israelis, working with different theatre methods, with an emphasis on Augusto Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed. The play “Kav Haim” is a theatrical expression of the experiences of the asylum seekers and the central issues of their lives. A joint project of Liat Shabtai, Rotem Goldenberg and Awat Ashbar.
Doors open at 15:00.
Tickets are 30 NIS.
Screening of Maysaloun Hamoud‘s film In Between, followed by a discussion with the director. Hamoud’s outspoken and outstanding debut feature focuses on the lives of three very different women – Laila, Salma, and Nur – Israeli Palestinians sharing an apartment in Tel Aviv, each navigating the complex terrain of her life.
