The Reflections series at the Israeli Opera will open on Monday, November 25, 2019 with Mazal Gdi Revisited – a tribute to Arik Einstein’s 1968 sophomore album, his first collaboration with Shalom Hanoch, who will be a special guest at the concert. The series brings classical and popular musical works together, enabling them to reflect on one another, and is under the artistic direction of Shlomi Shaban and Avner Biron. The concert will open with a Suite by Debussy.

Shlomi Shaban, Alon Eder, Uzi Navon, and Ester Rada will perform songs from the album, with the Bat Kol Choir joining on several songs. The presence of Shalom Hanoch, who composed the music for the album, makes this a very special occasion. Mazal Gdi takes its title from Arik Einstein’s astrological sign – Capricorn, and contains 13 songs, with lyrics by wonderful Israeli writers such as Leah Goldberg, Miriam Yellin Shteklis and Meir Ariel, songs that have become part of the Israeli soundtrack. Alex Weiss (1929 – 2001) was the musical director of the album, and created the arrangements for the songs, as well as many more, contributing in great measure to the sound of an era. Artistic directors Shlomi Shaban and Avner Biron have chosen to emphasize Weiss’s arrangements in this concert. Although the original partiture was missing, Evgeny Levitas recreated the arrangements, and they will be performed live onstage at the concert, which will include favorite songs such as Wind; Banana Man; When a Star Falls; What Was, Was, and many more.

Mazal Gdi Revisited will be performed on Monday, November 25, 2019 at 21:00 at the Israeli Opera – Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center. Ticket prices range from 210 – 280 NIS, and may be ordered online from the Israeli Opera website, or call 03-6927777.
