Haredim Trilogy to Air on Channel 2

The documentary trilogy Haredim, directed by Ron Ofer and Yohai Hakak, produced by Belfilms, will air on Keshet (Channel) 2, beginning this Saturday night, September 11 at 22:30, with the film Gevald!

The trilogy takes a close look at the ultra-Orthodox (Haredi) community in Israel, showing different perspectives of individuals within the community, as they tell their personal stories.

Shmuel-Haim Pappenheim

Gevald! centers on the events leading up to national elections, with a focus on two main characters, each with a different perspective on Judaism and the State of Israel. Shmuel-Haim Pappenhym edits a prominent magazine of the Jewish extreme sect which does not recognize the State of Israel, while Knesset member Rabbi Avraham Ravitz served in the Israeli Army and is involved in Israeli mainstream politics.

The Rabbi’s Daughter and the Midwife (Haradot in Hebrew) will air on September 18th at 23:00. The film presents two women who are working to better their community. Adina Bar – Shalom, eldest daughter of the revered, Rabbi Ovadia Yossef, decided to establish the first ever academic college for ultra-Orthodox Jews, and sought her father’s blessing for the endeavor. Midwife Rachel Chalkowski (Bambi) witnessed the hardships of ultra-Orthodox women for many years and established a charitable foundation to aid large families.

The controversial status of the internet in the ultra-Orthodox community is represented in this film through the efforts of Yigal Revach to intiate an Internet service that will be approved by the Rabbis, and Rabbi Micha Rothschild who seeks to protect the Haredi community from the internet.
