Between Heaven and Earth – Jewish Contemporary Dance Festival will take place November 8 – 11, 2010 at the Gerard Bechar Center in Jerusalem. The four day festival is a harvest festival of sorts, marking a decade of questions, encounters and shared exploration in Ronen Izhaki’s “Kol Atzmotai Tomarna” (from Psalms 35:10 “All my bones shall say: Lord who is like unto Thee”) project.
“Kol Atzmotai Tomarna” is a research/educational project, exploring the connection between Judaism and contemporary dance, spirit and movement, creating a dialogue between religious and secular worlds, and providing a framework for religiously observant men to study dance and train as dance teachers. Further information can be found on the “Kol Atzmotai Tomarna” site.
The first two evenings of the festival, November 8 & 9, will include only male performers onstage, in order to enable religiously observant men to attend the performances.
Four members of “Kol Atzmotai Tomarna” will premiere dance works created for the festival: Hanania Schwartz, Ehud Yehuda, Amitai Stern and Alon Ben-Yaakov. The works were created with the artistic guidance of choreographer Arkadi Zaides and Ronen Izhaki.
The program will also include works created for the Mahol BaRuach Festival, a joint project of the Choreographer’s Society, Beit Avi Chai and the Lab. The participating choreographers include: Nimrod Freed, Noa Dar, Smadar Imor, Alice Dor-Cohen, Racheli Zohar, Ofra Idel, Tami and Ronen Izahki.
The festival is produced by “Kol Atzmotai Tomarna” with the Choreographer’s Society, the Jerusalem Municipality and the Jerusalem Foundation. Additional information is available on the festival site: www.docdance.com. The festival will take place November 8 – 11, at the Gerard Bechar Centre, 11 Bezalel Street, Jerusalem.
