French director Robert Bresson (1901 – 1999) kept a notebook in which he wrote down his personal observations during the process of making his films. These were collected as Notes sur le Cinématographe, and published in 1975 (translated into English as Notes on Cinematography and Notes on the Cinematographer in different editions). Carmel Publishers are issuing the book in Hebrew, translated by cinema researcher and film critic Dr. Ariel Schweitzer.

The French Institute of Tel Aviv’s Ciné-club will present an homage to Robert Bresson  on Tuesday, February 1, 2011, launching the Hebrew edition of his book. Dr. Ariel Schweitzer, film critic for Les Cahiers du cinema and lecturer at Université paris 8 and Tel Aviv University, will open the evening with a talk on Bresson’s literary and cinematic work. The discussion will be followed by a screening of Bresson’s Mouchette (1967, 82 minutes, French with English subtitles).

Admission is 20 NIS, to reserve a place call: 03-7968000 or write to accueilifta@ambfr-il.org
